This training is designed to help a volunteer identify the red flags of when a client’s increased stress and anxiety are interfering with their recovery progress and additional support is required. In addition, volunteers will learn how to create and maintain appropriate boundaries with their clients and recognize when their own self care is lacking.

The Our Front Porch model focuses on building the relationship between client and case manager immediately following a disaster to ensure effective communication and support. Because our experiences have demonstrated that stabilizing emotional health is integral to a successful recovery, Our Front Porch approaches Disaster Case Management through a clinical lens. The purpose of the training is to prepare volunteers to be deployed as Disaster Case Managers when Our Front Porch is called to respond to a disaster. Topics covered include:
- The Our Front Porch Method of Disaster Case Management
- Needs Assessment and Documentation
- Housing Navigation
- Underwear Distribution
- Boundaries and Self Care
